12 step program for pacifier addiction?
You could easily say that Owen has always been a pacifier lover. Recently the obsession has become a bit too much, verging on an addiction. He walks around with it in his mouth almost all the time. When he wants to say something he takes it out of his mouth, says what he wants, and then puts the pacifier back in his mouth. For a while we were doing so good with keeping it in his bed. Then he started teething with his molars and was crabby so I caved and gave him the pacifier more. And then he got strep throat and started having his pacifier all the time again. I guess you could say that I am the enabler in this addiction situation.
I had a pacifier until I was 4...yes...I said till I was 4 years old! They say addictions are hereditary. Poor Owen just can't help it with a family history like that! My goal is to slowly wean him off the pacifier and it will be totally gone by the time he turns 2. I don't think they have a 12 step program for pacifier addiction, but we could sure use it. I am going to start slowly weaning him to have them only in bed again, and when he turns 2 they are going to go bye bye. It is so hard for me to take them away from him because he just cries and searches the house for a pacifier. Wish me luck...this is not going to be easy on either of us, but I refuse to have a preschooler with a pacifier!
